What is Flexible or “Flex” Seating?
Imagine a classroom where kids can learn in a comfortable setting. They are free to sit around the room and they are not tied to their desk all day. There is appropriate movement, and the kids are comfortable while they are learning. This opens the door for a lot more collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking.
Some things you might see in a Flexible Seating environment would be couches, low tables, standing desks, ball chairs, etc. I have always been the type of teacher where I try to let kids work however they need to work.
For example, if your child needs to stand then I let them stand (unless I’m teaching or we are taking a test). If your child needs to sit on a ball chair, then I will let them sit on a ball chair for movement. I would love your support in helping transform our classroom into a more flexible seating environment.
Please know that I will always give children the option to work at a desk or my back table (a more traditional setting). They can also be moved to a more traditional seat if they are having trouble with the flexible seating option for the day. Our goal will be to figure out how they work best!
